“Peeps S’Mores”
It’s Easter time, the Peeps have hatched. They are everywhere I look and there are many imposters …purple & green, pink & blue..have you ever in your life seen anything other than a yellow chick? Rabbit Peeps? Really! Peeps are Peeps. That’s it. Last word.
This year I played around and came up with this simple s’mores idea using Peeps. Here is what you will need:
A package of Peeps, Chocolate Graham Crackers, Semisweet or Bittersweet Baking Chocolate
Get busy:
1. Turn on oven Broiler. Lay an even number of Chocolate Graham Cracker squares out on baking sheets. Top half of squares with a piece of Chocolate & the other half with a Peep laying on its side.
2. Set rack at the lowest part of the oven & place baking sheet in oven. Leave for about 5-7 minutes or until Peeps are puffy and chocolate is melted. Remove pan from oven. “Sandwich” Peeps & chocolate covered graham crackers together pressing gently.

There are many ways to eat a Peep. One of my favorites is the “air-dried crunchy Peep”. You just let them sit around uncovered, out of their packaging, for a few days. This adds a layer of crunch right before you get to the soft marshmallow insides. Try it.
They are also delicious floating & melting on a cup of steamy hot cocoa. This will make you smile and if you have children or know any children then do this for them and they will smile.
Peeps like to decorate the tops of cupcakes as well.

Great post to wake up to. Made me smile, especially the little peep in the cup of cocoa. Peeps are popular in this household, though, and it might be hard to see them broiled. 🙂

Absolutely the best when air dried for about a week to let the “crunch” factor set it.
Even though I’m not a peep person, I got a kick out of this post Teresa. Some great ideas and the smore-ish peeps made Liz rather excited. 🙂
Are any of us really “Peeps” people? I just think that they are such fun to play with and actually made the best s’mores ever.
I have eaten nary a peep in many years…and maybe I would, if that peep were already sunken into a cup of hot chocolate or melted beyond identification on the stack of smores, poor peeps.
Yes Nance, Peeps need to be smothered, melted, floated or charred to bring out their odd goodness! Poor Peeps indeed!

You know Denise I really don’t “like” peeps as something to eat nearly as much as I “love” the idea of these oddly seasonal grossly sweet treats.

Claire, Peeps are definitely an “American” items! I am sure they do not exist anywhere else. They are a combination of being gross culinarily and fun artistically. Not something anyone should eat a lot of but full of nostalgia. I am sure you have a candy or sweet from your childhood that is much the same?
I must have led a very sheltered life as I have never eaten a peep. You are right…they are everywhere this year.
Well you must try one or two. They are quite delicious eaten in some of the ways I suggested. I also put some on a stick and roasted a few like you do marshmallows over an open flame and they were amazing. But only once a year!
