About me…recipes & food for thought from a food stylist’s home kitchen…

The one common bond we all have is that we need to eat and we need to eat foods that are good for us. It helps if the foods are fresh and easy to prepare. With a bit of savvy and curiosity it is pretty easy to turn the most humble ingredient into a small feast for the eyes and mouth.

This is my kitchen on Fifth Avenue North…it is small and I love it. Here is where I cook, experiment, test, invent, make mistakes and conjure up edibles & drinkables for my blog.

I am interested in combining classic Southern ingredients with ingredients from afar to come up with dishes that are comforting, sometimes edgy, that always look appealing and that an experienced or novice cook can tackle.

There is nothing more interesting than the history and lore of food…where foods originated from and how they have “moved” around the globe…how food is similar to fashion in so many ways…and how what we eat is influenced by the weather and politics in our areas.

The sign over my stove is so true, don’t you agree?

I have worked as a food stylist for commercial, editorial, film, television & video for over 25 years. In those years I have come in contact with the wonderfully good, the sometimes bad and the ugly made pretty. I love what I do. I never mind going “to work” as it always reminds me somewhat of playing “pretend” when I was little. It is at times being a magician and turning a sow’s ear into a silk purse!

      1. Hi Teresa – my pleasure – it is well deserved!

        I had to keep a lot of tabs open and flick between them copying and pasting the text and links etc. I don’t know if there is a better way but it is how I got them all done.

        For the image of the award, if you right click on it, a list of options should come up – do what works for you – I like to open image in another tab and then save that image to desktop so that it is easy to drag onto the blog (import media) . Does that make sense?

    1. Rita, I honestly have no idea. It is about 9 years old and we purchased it from a Sears “scratch & dint” store here in Nashville. I would check out the Whirlpool website? Good Luck

  21. I have a very similar kitchen in France….with nearly the same bar and exactly the same stools. It has a stone floor and a low south facing window….same size though. I like cooking in a small kitchen…everthing’s to hand…you just don’t need anyone “helping”:)

  41. Could you please tell me if the whipping cream in the Strawberry Cream Cheese Tart recipe should be whipped before adding to the cheese mixture? It doesn’t state if it is or not. Thank you.
