About me…recipes & food for thought from a food stylist’s home kitchen…

The one common bond we all have is that we need to eat and we need to eat foods that are good for us. It helps if the foods are fresh and easy to prepare. With a bit of savvy and curiosity it is pretty easy to turn the most humble ingredient into a small feast for the eyes and mouth.

This is my kitchen on Fifth Avenue North…it is small and I love it. Here is where I cook, experiment, test, invent, make mistakes and conjure up edibles & drinkables for my blog.

I am interested in combining classic Southern ingredients with ingredients from afar to come up with dishes that are comforting, sometimes edgy, that always look appealing and that an experienced or novice cook can tackle.

There is nothing more interesting than the history and lore of food…where foods originated from and how they have “moved” around the globe…how food is similar to fashion in so many ways…and how what we eat is influenced by the weather and politics in our areas.

The sign over my stove is so true, don’t you agree?

foodonfifth.com is my regular food diary, recipe file and way to keep in touch.

I have worked as a food stylist for commercial, editorial, film, television & video for over 25 years. In those years I have come in contact with the wonderfully good, the sometimes bad and the ugly made pretty. I love what I do. I never mind going “to work” as it always reminds me somewhat of playing “pretend” when I was little. It is at times being a magician and turning a sow’s ear into a silk purse!

Teresa Route 66
Traveling along Route 66 in Oklahoma I saw this old chair just sitting by a field. It was a hot day and this was a cool shady spot looking over sun-dried fields.

  1. There is always something nourishing at the house on 5th…..the peanut butter and butter sandwiches made by Baylor’s opa are a favorite…

  4. I simply want to say I’m beginner to weblog and truly enjoyed this page. Most likely I’m planning to bookmark your blog post . You absolutely come with excellent writings. Many thanks for sharing your webpage.

  5. Hi Teresa.

I have nominated you for the WordPress “Liebster Award”. Your recipes are lovely and photos are gorgeous and I think your blog should have a wider audience which is what this award helps to do. Acceptance is optional. A link to your blog and the rules for this award can be found here on my post here – http://selmastable.wordpress.com/2014/01/02/awards-and-accolades-2013. Looking forward to reading your posts in 2014!

      1. Hi Teresa – my pleasure – it is well deserved!

I had to keep a lot of tabs open and flick between them copying and pasting the text and links etc. I don’t know if there is a better way but it is how I got them all done.

For the image of the award, if you right click on it, a list of options should come up – do what works for you – I like to open image in another tab and then save that image to desktop so that it is easy to drag onto the blog (import media) . Does that make sense?

Let me know if you need more help and I will do my best…x

    1. Rita, I honestly have no idea. It is about 9 years old and we purchased it from a Sears “scratch & dint” store here in Nashville. I would check out the Whirlpool website? Good Luck

  6. Teresa, I’m a fairly new blogger, and you’ve commented and added yourself to my blog before. I have since changed the format and unfortunately the name change too, so I’ve lost the few followers that added themselves to my blog. Please be so kind as to add yourself again, as I’ve just posted and I don’t believe it appeared on anyone’s feed. Much appreciated.

  7. Wow! Tina was right to have included you in the My Writing Process! I love your site and the photos are amazing! Looking forward to following you and see your future posts! Farianti 😊

  8. I have a very similar kitchen in France….with nearly the same bar and exactly the same stools. It has a stone floor and a low south facing window….same size though. I like cooking in a small kitchen…everthing’s to hand…you just don’t need anyone “helping”:)

  9. Although hemispheres and poles apart–Manhattan versus the Zambezi Valley in the African bush–I relate so much to what you promote in your blog. Simple, fresh, easy. I look forward to following your beautiful blog. Annabel

  14. Could you please tell me if the whipping cream in the Strawberry Cream Cheese Tart recipe should be whipped before adding to the cheese mixture? It doesn’t state if it is or not. Thank you.
